Day 1: Cusco - Pona Lodge (Journey to the Cloud Forest)

Your Manu adventure begins with a 5:00 AM pickup from your Cusco hotel in our private transport. Journey through the majestic Andes, with a brief stop in Paucartambo, the folkloric capital of Cusco, renowned for its rich traditions. By midday, we reach the entrance of Manu National Park, a gateway to South America's most protected natural areas.

Descend into the mystical Cloud Forest of Manu, a haven of biodiversity. Witness the spectacular courtship display of Peru's national bird, the Cock of the Rock, a vibrant ballet of sounds and colors unique to this Peruvian jungle. Our first night is spent at the charming Pona Lodge, arriving around 5:00 PM.

Day 2: Pona Lodge – Yanayacu Lodge (Hummingbirds & Hot Springs)

After an early start (6:30 AM), we journey to the pristine waters of the Alto Madre de Dios River. Before reaching Atalaya Port, delight in a visit to a vibrant Hummingbird Garden, where you'll observe numerous species, alongside Tanagers, Barbets, King Vultures, and playful Titi Monkeys.

From Atalaya, our Manu river boat trip continues to a serene Hot Spring, where you can relax for an hour amidst nature. Afterward, we proceed to our next comfortable lodge for the night.

• Hummingbird Garden Visit: A fantastic opportunity for hummingbird observation, plus sightings of tanagers, barbets, monkeys, and the impressive king vulture.
• Natural Hot Spring Bath: Enjoy a rejuvenating, relaxing bath in a secluded jungle hot spring.

Day 3: Yanayacu Lodge - Parrot Clay Lick – Manu Reserved Zone – Casa Matsiguenka (Deep into the Amazon)

Prepare for the crown jewel of your Manu trip: the Reserved Zone. Before entering, experience the vibrant spectacle of a Parrot Clay Lick, where numerous species of parrots, parakeets, and macaws gather.

Transition from the clear waters of the Alto Madre de Dios to the sediment-rich Manu River. After a brief stop at Limonal ranger station, we embark on a five-hour upstream journey into the heart of the Manu Reserved Zone. Keep your eyes peeled for nesting birds, Herons, Egrets, Orinoco Geese, Terns, and Skimmers along the riverbanks. You might spot sunning White and Black Caimans, breeding Side-necked Turtles, and hundreds of Sand-colored Nightjars. This section offers your best chance for a Jaguar sighting, with a historically high success rate! We'll also encounter various monkey species, including Red Howler Monkeys and Squirrel Monkeys.

After a riverside lunch, we arrive at our Safari Lodge near Cocha Salvador. Spend the afternoon exploring pristine rainforest trails. A visit to Cocha Otorongo is planned, featuring observation piers and a 20-meter tower for incredible wildlife viewing. Search for a large family of Giant Otters inhabiting the lake. An optional night walk offers the thrill of spotting nocturnal creatures like Black Caimans (their eye-shine visible in the dark!), Olingo Kinkajous, or even an Ocelot. The symphony of frogs and insects at night is unforgettable. Overnight at the authentic Casa Matsiguenka Lodge (with flush toilets and showers).

• Jaguar Searching: Your prime opportunity for a Jaguar encounter along the Manu River.
• Cocha Otorongo Visit: Your first chance to observe magnificent Giant Otters and large Black Caimans in an oxbow lake.

Day 4: Matsiguenka Lodge – Salvador Oxbow Lake – Macaw Clay Lick (Iconic Amazon Wildlife)

An early morning catamaran excursion on Cocha Salvador, the largest oxbow lake in Manu National Park, promises an abundance of birds and mammals. Spot herons, cormorants, eagles, hawks, squirrel monkeys, capuchin monkeys, and crucially, the impressive Giant Otters (Pteronura brasiliensis), common in Manu. Look for some of the 15 monkey species here.

After exploring Cocha Salvador, we return to Casa Matsiguenka Lodge before heading to a vibrant Macaw Clay Lick. Witness a breathtaking display of Scarlet Macaws and Red-and-Green Macaws as they descend to the clay, a truly iconic Amazon wildlife spectacle.

Following lunch, explore jungle trails with your ecologist guide, learning about the complex rainforest ecosystem. Search for smaller inhabitants like Emperor Pichicos or Spotted-backed Tamarins, and potentially encounter a group of Peccaries (wild boars). Overnight at Casa Matsiguenka Lodge.

• Cocha Salvador Visit: Explore Manu's largest oxbow lake for giant otters, black caimans, and diverse birds and monkeys.
• Macaw Clay Lick: Witness the spectacular gathering of scarlet macaws and red-and-green macaws.
• Nocturnal Wildlife Walk: Discover insects, amphibians, reptiles, night monkeys, and owls on a guided night walk.

Day 5: Casa Matsiguenka Lodge (Reserved Zone) – Tapir Clay Lick (Encountering Elusive Tapirs)

Today, trek through the forest to another incredible oxbow lake, Cocha Otorongo ("Jaguar Lake"), offering more Manu wildlife viewing. Observe groups of monkeys, particularly common woolly monkeys. Your guide will help you interpret the subtle signs of the forest, indicating the presence of hidden animals and birds.

After a relaxing lunch, we navigate downstream on the Manu River and then upstream on the Alto Madre de Dios to reach a special Tapir Clay Lick area. We will spend the night in a hidden jungle blind, offering the unique opportunity to observe tapirs under the cover of darkness.

• Jaguar Search: Continue your quest for jaguar encounters along the Manu River (best chances July-October).

• Overnight Jungle Camping: Experience an immersive night in a camouflage house in the heart of the Amazon rainforest.

Day 6: Tapir Clay Lick - Cusco (Departure from the Amazon)

After a final morning in the jungle, we begin our journey back, traveling to Cusco, where you will arrive around 3:00 PM. This marks the end of your unforgettable Manu Reserved Zone expedition.
