Day 1: Cusco – Cloud Forest – Pona Lodge (Andean Peaks to Jungle Gateway)

Day Itinerary:
Your Manu adventure begins with an early morning departure from Cusco in our specially prepared private transport. We'll journey through fascinating Andean valleys, pausing to explore the pre-Inca burial towers of Ninamarca. Next, we visit Paucartambo, a charming colonial town. Our ascent peaks at the Abra de Accjanaco (3850m / 12,630ft), marking our descent into the breathtaking Cloud Forest. This ecologically rich area is home to endemic species like the Andean Bear (Tremarctos Ornatus), vibrant orchids, bromeliads, and ferns. A highlight will be visiting a Cock of the Rock lek, where these magnificent Peruvian National Birds perform their intricate courtship "Displays." We'll spend our first night immersed in the jungle sounds at Bamboo Lodge.

Day 2: Bamboo Lodge – Papaya Eco-Lodge – Piranha Fishing & Caiman Search

  • Thrilling motorized boat ride down the Alto Madre de Dios River.
  • Relaxing soak in natural hot springs.

Day Itinerary:
After breakfast, our journey continues by bus through the high forest to Atalaya Port (700m / 2,296ft), located on the Alto Madre de Dios River. From here, we embark on an exhilarating motorized boat ride downstream. Along the riverbanks, we'll have excellent opportunities for birdwatching, spotting herons, vultures, and cormorants. We'll stop to relax and rejuvenate in natural hot springsalong the river.

By mid-afternoon, we arrive at our Papaya Eco-Lodge. This afternoon, we head to an oxbow lake where we'll enjoy an exciting piranha fishing experience from a small balsa raft until dark. As night falls, the lake transforms, and we'll embark on a thrilling caiman searching expedition, aiming to observe at least two species of these fascinating nocturnal reptiles.

Day 3: Papaya Eco-Lodge – Tapir Clay Lick (Overnight in the Jungle Blind)

Day Highlights:

  • Morning jungle exploration on guided trails, spotting monkeys, toucans, reptiles, and amphibians.
  • Afternoon trek to a secluded Mammal Clay Lick.
  • Unforgettable night spent in a camouflage house (blind) on a platform at the Tapir Clay Lick.
  • Opportunity to observe Tapirs, deer, peccaries, guans, and parakeets at night.

Day Itinerary:
After breakfast, we delve deeper into the Amazon rainforest with a guided morning jungle exploration. Our trails offer chances to observe diverse wildlife, including various monkey species, colorful toucans, reptiles, and amphibians. We return to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, we pack our dinner and embark on an exciting 45-minute to 1.5-hour walk through the forest towards a remote Mammal Clay Lick. During the trek, we'll keep an eye out for exotic birds like toucans and macaws. Near the Tapir Clay Lick, a specially constructed platform and camouflage house (blind) will be our accommodation for the night. Here, you'll experience the magic of the jungle as we wait patiently to observe Tapirs and other nocturnal animals like deer and peccaries visiting the lick for mineral-rich clay. Our platform provides mattresses, mosquito nets, blankets, and a discreet toilet. This overnight jungle experience is truly unique!

Day 4: Tapir Clay Lick – Papaya Eco-Lodge – Bamboo Lodge (Canoe & Hummingbirds)

This extended boat trip offers continuous opportunities to observe various species of birds and mammals along the riverbanks, including monkeys and caimans.

Day 5: Pona Lodge – Cusco (Cloud Forest Birding & Farewell to Manu)

Our route then takes us through the picturesque Sacred Valley, arriving back in Cusco around 4:00 PM, filled with unforgettable memories of the Amazon's profound beauty and wildlife.
